OBJECTIVE Seeking a challenging career in Opto-electronics field as a III-V Semiconductor Engineer with an opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary environment
SKILLS OFFERED * Flexibility of working in varied range of fields, including device fabrication to device characterization as well as preparing and giving presentations in International conferences. * Specialised in long wavelength (1550nm) InGaAs/InAlGaAs/InP material system. * In depth knowledge of broad gain spectrum semiconductor quantum well lasers. * Over 4 years of clean room experience in fabrication of standard broad area lasers to complex structures like ridge waveguide and multi-section devices. * Device mounting and wire bonding for characterization. * Trained in using research equipment like Rapid Thermal Annealer (RTA), Dektak and Telestep profilers, Karl Suss mask aligner, Kulicke & Soffa Wedge wire bonder, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and Plasma asher. * Working knowledge of LabView, MS Word and Excel for Windows 95, 98 and 2000, with excellent typing skills. * Possess good technical writing and presentation skills.
AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS * Won an award for a poster presentation in Quantum Electronics Photonics (QEP) conference at University of Strathclyde, Glasgow (Scotland), in September 2001. * President of Glasgow University Badminton Club during 1999-00, where I was responsible for running the club and organising badminton matches against other universities. * Elected as engineering club secretary between 1996-97, where I was responsible for maintaining the 3rd year homepage on the Internet and organising cheese and wine parties on special occasions. * Elected as the class captain during the 4th year studies in 1992-93 by fellow pupils in High School.
OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS * Gave oral and poster presentations in following conferences: Lasers and Electro Optics Society (LEOS), Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEOS) and Quantum Electronics Photonics (QEP). * Paper entitled ¥Internal optical loss measurements in InGaAs/ InAlGaAs quantum well lasers centred around 1550nm¥ accepted recently for publication in May 2003 edition of IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. * Developed a power adapter, required to measure the power consumed by the domestic appliances, as part of a team activity of 3rd year BE curriculum in 1996-97. * Student member of IEEE and IEE.
WORK EXPERIENCE 1998-2002: Involved in giving lab demonstrations to undergraduate and MSc. Students, with subjects related to semiconductor and devices, and marking the lab books. Also responsible for maintaining the laser test lab in the Electronics department in Glasgow University.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS University of Glasgow, Scotland Recently achieved a PhD. degree under the supervision of Professor Charlie Ironside, with the thesis entitled ¥Investigation of broad gain spectrum InGaAs/InAlGaAs quantum well lasers latticed matched to InP¥. The Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) funded the project. The thesis was concerned with III-V quantum well semiconductor lasers that operated at optical communication wavelengths around 1550nm. During my research I carried out spectral TE and TM gain, internal optical loss, and absorption coefficient measurements; as well as successfully achieved the first colliding pulsed mode-locked operation in broad gain multiple width quantum well material.
B.Eng. (Honours); Electronics Engineering with Opto-electronics Honours Subjects: Semiconductor Devices, Mathematics, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics and Quantum Electronics, Fibre Optic systems, Quantum Electronics & Laser, Communications, Opto-electronic Devices and Financial Management.
FINAL YEAR PROJECT Successfully completed project entitled 'Packaging of Opto-electronics' where I developed and tested coupling between the Wave-guide and Fibre optic cable. I also gave a presentation on this project during the end of final semester.
MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION Take interest in soccer, pool, travelling, chess, pen friends, playing badminton, collecting stamps, music and Science fiction films.
