Developers' Nation, the comprehensive site for Palm developers
worldwide and OneBuild, the e-markets enabler for the

industry. Helped market, facilitate and document ¥Leading from the

Edge of Chaos: Complexity Theory and Health Care,¥ a major
conference presented by VHA Inc. Held at the Merrill Lynch
Training
and Conference Center, Princeton, New Jersey with support from
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the conference introduced

business and health care leaders to the new science of complexity,

which arises from a variety of fields -- physics, evolutionary
biology,
computer science, economics -- and offers new insights into the
ways in which human organizations behave.

Designed, coordinated, and documented three annual CEO
retreatsfor VHA Central, a regional health care system based in
Columbus, Ohio. The retreats, respectively, set the organization's
agenda for the 90's and introduced the issue of operational
restructuring for a health care delivery system in the midst of a
paradigm shift. The meetings received high marks from
participants
and led to a strong working relationship between my group and
VHA
Central.

After one year of working with VHA Central on a number of
projects,
was placed on a monthly retainer to provide consulting, marketing
and public relations services on a continuing basis. Experience in
working with VHA Central facilitated working relationships with
administrators and managers at the forty-three hospitals in the
regional alliance, as well as with many hospital-based health plans

and regional managed care networks that include its
member hospitals.

My group facilitated and documented a retreat for more than one
hundred health care executives and physicians in Laguna Niquel,
California. The conference, ¥Capitation in California: Earthquakes
and Aftershocks,¥ received excellent evaluations form the
participants and resulted in the publication of an Executive Report
that VHA Mid-Atlantic, distributed to approximately four hundred
staffers at member hospitals.

Conducted a comprehensive marketing audit for Health Cleveland
that identified the two-hospital system's strengths and
weaknesses,
and made specific recommendations for its future course.
Elements
of the project included a survey of management and the medical
staff as well as an analysis of the hospitals' marketing literature,
programs and services.

Through an innovative marketing and advertising program,
established an effective corporate identity for a national network of

alcohol and substance abuse treatment centers. TV spots, radio
and print ads, coupled with a well-planned media strategy and
community relations campaign, positioned individual centers in
major markets across the country.

Helped a more than 100-year-old general hospital quickly
reposition
itself as a specialty mental health care provider through a
marketing
strategy that both countered and benefited from the institution's
past
reputation. Transformed a negative community image into a
positive
one by developing a well-received community awareness program
addressing mental health problems and highlighting the hospital's
services.

For a leading home health care provider, organized and
documented symposia and seminars on discharge planning to
home
care that served as effective marketing tools to hospitals
throughout
the country.

Quickly positioned a new rehabilitation center as the experts in
musculo-skeletal therapy in their market. Wrote their marketing
plan
and created advertising and public relations campaigns that more
than doubled referrals in three months.

Created and implemented a comprehensive marketing plan for
Ohio
Valley Hospital, Steubenville, Ohio. Work has touched all areas of
the hospital's marketing and planning over a period of
approximately
two years.

Wrote, published and edited Managed Care Scanner, a Voluntary
Hospitals of America periodical on managed care issues and
health
care reform that is attracted a national following. Work on the
Scanner as well as other projects completed for VHA resulted in
regular contact with key hospital administrators and managers.
